The English language is the centerpiece of our curriculum which is in accordance to the UK Key Stages. At the British International School of Zagreb, Key Stage 3 comprises of Years 7, 8 and 9. This is defined as Lower Secondary. At BISZ, students study English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, a choice of at least one Modern Foreign Language (Spanish, Italian, Croatian and German), Art and Design, Music, Physical Education, Citizenship and ICT (Information and Communication Technology). Key Stage 4 is Middle Secondary and incorporates Years 10 and 11 whereby students at the British International School of Zagreb study a range of subjects offered at the IGCSE level. The core subjects are English, Mathematics and Science, and the foundation subjects are ICT (Information and Communication Technology), Physical Education, Citizenship, and elective subjects taken from The Arts, Humanities and Modern Foreign Languages. Students in Years 12 and 13 (Upper Secondary - KS5) at the British International School of Zagreb choose 4 subjects to study at the AS level (in Year 12) and 3 subjects at A - level (in Year 13). Students choose subjects specifically targeted towards the University Course they wish to pursue as a career path. Since 2014, our British High School nurtures traditional values with a top quality education where we offer a high level of academic support with individually, paired and group tailored classes to cater for the prioritization of student well-being. This approach also seeks specific didactic strategies that enable the optimal individualization of learning. Our High School classrooms have an average of up to 15 students which allows greater fulfillment of the developmental and cognitive needs of each individual student, taking into consideration that our teacher to student ratio is 1 to 6. For over 10 years now, the Secondary school is a part of the Cambridge International Education (CIE) and works as the British International School of Zagreb (BISZ), which is an official Cambridge International School. The curriculum is entirely taught in the English language and follows the British Curriculum of the CIE. The first two years of our High School programme is the world famous IGCSE whilst the final two years of the programme is the astounding A – levels (also referred to as Sixth form).
